FanDuel Sportsbook Review

The brand needs no introduction. It was created in July 2009 and it went on to dominate the Daily Fantasy Sports market before getting into the sports betting business. A company called Flutter Entertainment, formerly known as Paddy Power Betfair, bought FanDuel in 2018 and turned it into a mobile sportsbook, although it still has DFS contests.

It also offers a mobile casino app in some states, and there is a FanDuel Racebook in certain parts of the country too. This FanDuel Sportsbook app review mainly focuses on sports betting, but we’ll also give our verdict on the other products on offer, along with the

, payment methods and customer service levels.

States Available

These are the states where FanDuel Sportsbook has gained a license to launch the popular mobile sports betting app:

  • Arizona
  • Colorado
  • Connecticut
  • Illinois
  • Indiana
  • Iowa
  • Louisiana
  • Michigan
  • New Hampshire
  • New York
  • Pennsylvania
  • Tennessee
  • Virginia
  • West Virginia
  • Wyoming

Mobile Site Design

Flutter Entertainment is the largest online gambling firm in the world. Its brands include Paddy Power, Betfair, SkyBet, PokerStars, FOX Bet, Adjarabet, BetEasy and Sportsbet.com.au. It knows how to build a great mobile app, and it has done a fabulous job with the FanDuel app, which runs on the OpenBet engine.

It’s very clean, bright and modern. Pages fire up very quickly, so you can get your wagers on in seconds. It doesn’t have as many features and details as some rival apps, like BetMGM, and it doesn’t cover as many sports, but that just helps the app run quicker and it makes the design tidier.

You can download the app by visiting the Apple App Store or Google Play, but you need to be in one of the states listed above. If you’re based elsewhere, you’ll need to use a bookie like MyBookie, BetUS or BetOnline.

Users at the App Store and Google Play have given FanDuel a terrific average rating. We’re inclined to agree with them. It’s a lot more reliable than some of its rivals in the USA, and it’s easier to use, so the team that built and designed the app deserves credit.

Security

You won’t have to worry about security at FanDuel. This is a legit mobile betting app that holds licenses for many different states, and it takes safety very seriously. It has amassed a sizeable customer base since 2018, but it hasn’t suffered any hacks or security problems.

It also has a reputation for paying bettors out quickly. You’ll never have to be concerned about whether your funds will arrive, and it’s covered by consumer protection agencies in various states. The only downside is that it isn’t available nationwide.

Sportsbook

The mobile sports betting app from FanDuel covers a solid selection of sports. Rivals like DraftKings and BetMGM include more sports, but FanDuel hasn’t gone down that route. It likes to keep things more streamlined and focused. These are the sports featured at the FanDuel Sportsbook:

    • Football | NFL and NCAAF
    • Basketball | NBA, NCAAB, WNBA, leagues in Europe and Asia
    • Baseball | MLB
    • Hockey | NHL, a few European leagues
    • Tennis | Grand Slams, ATP, WTA
    • Golf | PGA Tour, European Tour, majors
    • Soccer | MLS, EPL, Champions League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga etc.
  • MMA
  • Boxing
  • Cricket
  • Cycling
  • Darts
  • Motorsport
  • Rugby League
  • Rugby Union
  • Snooker
  • Table Tennis

Betting Markets

FanDuel Sportsbook is a good option for NFL and NBA bettors. On an NFL game, you can choose from a load of spreads and totals, TD scorers, correct scores, same game parlays, passing props, receiving props, rushing props, defensive props, kicker props, drive results and so on, and you can bet on the various quarters and halves.

It’s a similar situation for hoops fans. You’ll find lots of betting options on an NBA game, including alternative spreads, alternative total points lines, first basket, player performance doubles, betting on triple doubles and double doubles, same game parlays, player points, rebounds assists, threes and combos, betting on halves and quarters, team props, wire to wire, margins and “race to” markets.

For other sports, it’s not so good. For example, it doesn’t work well for soccer bettors, because you can find spreads or Asian handicaps. You’ll also need to find a different mobile bookie if you want to bet on sports like lacrosse, handball, surfing and so on – more obscure sports – because they aren’t featured at FanDuel, and it doesn’t have bets on the sort of unfamiliar leagues you’ll spot at rival bookies.

The odds at FanDuel are average. You get standard juice spreads and totals, and the moneylines are often in line with DraftKings and BetMGM. The prop betting lines could be a bit better. One plus is that FanDuel allows you to win up to $1 million on loads of sports and leagues, so it has higher winning limits on many events than most of its close competitors.

Live Betting

You can tap on the “Live now” tab in the FanDuel app to check out games you can bet on in-play. It covers all the main sports – football, basketball, baseball, hockey, soccer, tennis and so on – but you’ll also find some random snooker and table tennis matches to mix things up.

It has a decent selection of live betting options, including alternative spreads and totals on a football game, and loads of player props and game props. Live streaming is sometimes available, and you’ll be kept up-to-date with live scores and stats on other games. It’s a very good live betting section within an excellent sports betting app.

Racebook

You’ll need to download a separate FanDuel Racing app to bet on horses. It’s another great app, with live streaming from more than 300 tracks.

You can sign in with your FanDuel DFS credentials, and you’ll be welcomed with a 100% deposit match up to $50. There’s also win bet insurance on certain tracks, whereby you get $5 if the horse you bet on to win finishes first or second, along with win boost bonuses.

It offers tutorials too, which help you learn the tricks of betting on horse racing. It covers racing from across the USA, plus some of the biggest races from around the world. The racecards are pretty detailed, and you’ll get free picks from experts too.

Casino

The FanDuel Casino app is available to anyone physically located in Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. FanDuel also powers the Mohegan Sun Casino app in Connecticut.

It has a small selection of games, but they’re all well-designed, fun games from heavyweight development studios like NetEnt, Microgaming, IGT and Play’n GO. You’ll be able to play some high RTP slots, a couple of progressive jackpots and a reasonable selection of live dealer games on your mobile screen.

New FanDuel Casino app users get 24 hours of risk-free play. If you lose in that time, you’ll get it back as a refund, up to $1,000, paid in free bet credit. You only need to turn the free bet credit over once, and you can then cash it out.

Welcome Bonus

The standard FanDuel mobile bookie bonus for new customers is a $1,000 risk-free bet. It sounds great, but there are a few things to bear in mind.

You can bet on any game or sports event you like, which is great. If you lose, you’ll get a refund, but it isn’t paid in cash. You’ll get site credit, which has a 1x rollover requirement. That means you’ll need to place a winning bet at +100 to recover the amount you lost, so it’s not exactly risk-free, but it’s still a good welcome offer.

FanDuel also runs lots of exciting sign-up offers as an alternative to that bonus. For example, you might be offered the chance to bet $5 and get $150 in withdrawable cash on an NFL team to win a game. That’s a bonus it ran during the NFL playoffs in New York in January 2022. Look out for bonuses like that, as they may be better than the $1,000 risk-free bet.

Promotions

You’ll get lots of additional bonuses at FanDuel Sportsbook. For example, if you place a bet on a same game parlay for $20 or more, you’ll get an equivalent amount in free bet credit, up to a maximum of $100, win or lose.

There’s also a refer a friend offer, which offers site credit worth up to $50 for the sportsbook app and $50 for casino games.

The FanDuel Sportsbook app runs loads of challenges and contests too. For example, the Hi Lo challenge gives you the chance to win $1,000,000 during the NFL season, and it’s free to enter, while the Over / Under NBA challenge hands out $5,000 in weekly prizes.

FanDuel Sportsbook’s promotions change throughout the year, but you’ll normally find free bets and contests. There’s an odds boost section too, which focuses on parlays, same game parlays and props, with different markets every day to choose from.

One downside is that the FanDuel Sportsbook app doesn’t have a loyalty program. The FanDuel rewards program is for DFS only.

Banking

You can fund your FanDuel Sportsbook app with Visa, MasterCard, PayPal, Venmo, Play+ or an e-check or online bank transfer. If you’d rather pay in cash, you can use PayNearMe, which is available at lots of stores, including several 7-Eleven, CVS and Walmart outlets. You can also pay in cash at a casino cage that works with FanDuel or one of its retail books at locations like the Meadowlands or Motor City Casino.

You’ll notice several popular options missing from the list: American Express, Discover, Skrill, Neteller, crypto and so on. However, you should find something that appeals from that list, and it’s a smooth payment process.

It’s not as quick to pay customers their winnings as bookies like BetUS, BetOnline and Bovada, but it’s quicker than the likes of DraftKings and BetMGM. You’ll get your money in 48 hours max if you go for Play+, Venmo or PayPal. Checks and bank transfers are much slower, which is standard at mobile bookies. FanDuel’s withdrawals are free and they start at $10.

Customer Service

FanDuel initially failed to match its key rivals in the customer service stakes, but it added a 24/7 live chat option after a couple of years, which was a major improvement. There’s still no phone line, which is disappointing for some customers, but the live chat works quite well.

When we tested it out, the agents responded pretty quickly and they could answer our questions. There’s a help center in the app too, but it could be more detailed. The responsible gambling section covers sports betting, casino gaming, DFS and racing, and offers links to various organizations that can help.

Conclusion

This is a great mobile bookie. It’s easy to use the app, and it’s reliable too. We liked the choice of sign-up bonuses, the free bet promos and the odds boosts, so it’s easy to see why so many bettors have chosen FanDuel Sportsbook.

It’s quicker at paying out than its competitive set, and it has higher winning limits too. The live betting section is great, and there are features like live streaming that add to the experience.

It would be nice to see more sports featured, additional bet types on certain sports, more payment options, a customer support phone line, more casino games and parlay bonuses, but it’s still a very strong mobile bookie. The only problem is that it’s not available in lots of states. If you can’t access FanDuel, check out our reviews of MyBookie, BetUS and BetOnline to find a mobile bookie you can register with today.
